Week 2

v  For this class we had an assignment, which consists on bringing a photo of National Geography and making a comment related to the photo. For this class I brought I photo of Madagascar of trees. And we discussed the photos.

v  I wrote for this photo:  “Near the city of Morondava on the west coast of Madagascar lies an ancient forest of baobab trees. Those are unique in Madagascar. Walking among these giants is like nothing else on this planet. Some of the trees here are over a thousand years old. It is a spiritual place, almost magical. And in this beautiful place we can find this little girl, kind of mystic and interesting. In Madagascar there is place called the “Avenue of Baobab”. Madagascar is a spectacular place, with nature and things that are worth seeing”.

v  We made a translation about a text the professor gave us and the final translation was:
·         She had never been to UK. That´s why once we arrived there she was more surprised than us. However, the youngest student of the group told us if we had been slier, we would have taken a short course of information in order to get around better than other visitors who will visit the country.
·         During our last English lesson, our professor informed us that we are going to have a test today. Two weeks ago, we also had a test in which we can see how much we had advanced and what we were failing.
v  We sang and listen to a song; it was Tom´s dinner from Suzanne Vega.
v  We learned about passive voice:
®    The structure is:  Subject + be + past participle + by + the agent.
®    It focuses on the person or thing that receives or is the result of an action.
®    We can use it with an agent( by+noun) when:
*      You want to make the receiver of the action more important than the one who performs the action.
*      The information is necessary to complete the meaning, or when it is new or surprising information.
®    We can use it without an agent when:
*      The agent is unknown or unimportant.
*      The agent is understood from the context.
*      You want to avoid mentioning the agent.
